Caring for animals

EAZA Best Practice Guidelines (BPGs) are produced by the various Taxon Advisory Groups (TAGs) to merge expert husbandry knowledge and make it widely available within and outside the borders of the EAZA community. The guidelines displayed here show best practice standards, which EAZA zoos aim at achieving.

EAZA is committed to promoting the positive welfare of animals. The ability to understand and assess animal welfare within zoos and aquariums is a very valuable tool to identify potential welfare changes and areas for welfare improvement. You can find here various resources, compiled by the EAZA Animal Welfare Working Group, to help you gain knowledge from experts in the field and develop your own institutional welfare assessment programme.

The EAZA Nutrition Working Group is committed to zoo animal or wildlife nutrition. They have compiled various resources, both theoretical and applied, to support best practice based on the latest animal nutrition science in EAZA organisations.
