European and international zoo educators are invited to attend the EAZA European Zoo Educators (EZE) Conference 2013, hosted by Burgers' Zoo in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Burgers’ Zoo is famous for its innovative ‘eco-displays’, featuring tropical rainforest, North-American desert and the Indo-pacific Ocean. Over 500 animal species roam in naturalistic enclosures. In March 2013 the park will celebrate its 100th anniversary, and is thrilled to be hosting the EZE Conference in this special year.

EAZA Academy Workshop: Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL), 4 March 2013 - COURSE FULL Please contact Myfanwy Griffith (Myfanwy.Griffith[at]eaza.net) to be added to the waiting list.
The EZE 2013 will be preceded by a one day EAZA Academy workshop exploring Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL).
Often learning programmes in animal collections focus their success criteria on the knowledge transfer of facts and figures. By having this narrow focus, there is a lack of social/emotional content that drives motivation and empathy. If our mission as animal collections is to change visitors’ hearts, minds and behaviour, we cannot achieve this by focusing on cognitive based activities alone. SEAL frameworks are based on 5 core areas: Self Awareness, Managing feelings, Motivation, Empathy, Social Skills. Application of SEAL concepts to zoo learning programmes supports an understanding of natural systems empathy for all of life.
You can register to attend the EAZA Academy workshop either by itself or in addition to the EZE Conference using the registration button below.
